Our story

It was the summer of 1979: and the America economy was at its worse point since the Great Depression: at home unemployment and inflation were sky-high, while overseas revolutionaries held both Americans and the world’s oil-supply hostage, setting-off the global Oil Crisis of 1979.  Frustrated Americans waited for hours in endless gas line

It was the summer of 1979: and the America economy was at its worse point since the Great Depression: at home unemployment and inflation were sky-high, while overseas revolutionaries held both Americans and the world’s oil-supply hostage, setting-off the global Oil Crisis of 1979.  Frustrated Americans waited for hours in endless gas lines just to buy overpriced gas.  The once almighty US auto industry, with its fleet of gas-guzzlers, was brought to its knees as Japan took over the market and Chrysler took a billion-dollar federal bail-out.  The future of America and its automobiles seemed doomed.

However, change was coming.  Recession restores resourcefulness and while the Oil Crisis was driving Americans off the road, enterprising Americans were starting to put taco stands on wheels (a.k.a. Taco Trucks).  Two of these entrepreneurs, Victor and Juana Garcia, rolled into Pasadena, California in their 1959 Ford Step-Van, just one block north of the intersection of California Blvd and Fair Oaks Ave.  Together they brought Mexico-City food to the City of Roses and beyond, as people from all over LA county made the pilgrimage to their taco truck.  Along with the trailblazer of the taco truck movement , King Taco, and fellow pioneer El Taurino, Los California Tacos were one of the first taco trucks in America, changing not only what we eat, but how we eat it!  40 years later the Oil Crisis of 1979 is over, but Victor and Juana’s Los California Tacos  the food truck style they pioneered still stands.
